Reaching milestones
by: Sheryl Trowbridge
When a child reaches a new milestone, the parents are happy and proud.
When a child with special needs reaches a new milestone, the parents are happy and proud and they celebrate. They celebrate because they have just witnessed a miracle, and they know it.
A child with special needs has a harder time at achieving what other children do so easily. A child with special needs has to struggle and work hard just to be able to roll over. A child with special needs may even need to be taught how to sit or to crawl. They need to be taught, what comes so easily to other children.
As you watch your child struggle for weeks, months or even years to reach a milestone, you see the disappointment and frustration in his eyes when he cannot do it.
As you watch you child struggle with determination for weeks, months, or even years to reach a new milestone, you see the excitement and the pride when he finally does it.
You cry, you laugh, you thank God for giving you this special moment that you will cherish for the rest of your life, and you celebrate.
For you have just witnessed a miracle, and you know it.
